Barrie of Durham first opened its doors in the early 1960’s, under the name of R.J.Barrie and Partner.
Originally owned by and named after Bob Barrie, a well-known, local man.
In 1987 the business was taken over by Dave & Joyce McHarry and renamed Barrie of Durham, retaining its original links to the founder. Dave brought a wealth of experience to the business having started his career at Royal Insurance at the age of 17.
Barrie of Durham quickly grew, and established an excellent reputation for service with both personal and business clients.
In 1991, Dave & Joyce’s daughter Julie, joined them in the business, followed by son-in-law Kevin Wilson, making it a truly family business, now Julie and Kevin run the business. Now we are just waiting for the next generation to join us!
